If you plan to fly with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines on Wednesday, you might want to double check your booking.
The Amsterdam-based carrier just announced it would cancel 100 flights on September 10, due to a two-hour strike by ground crew workers, according to Reuters. The strike will take place at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport (AMS) from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. local time on Wednesday, an alert from the airport says.
Flight cancellations will affect about 27,000 passengers, KLM told Reuters. The airline’s website says that passengers traveling on September 10 or later this week should check for flight updates in the KLM app and the MyTrip section of the airline’s website. Passengers should also ensure that their contact details are up to date in their profile in the app and online. “If your flight is cancelled or you miss a connecting flight due to this strike, we will automatically rebook you on the first available alternative flight,” the airline says.
Travelers who may be affected by cancellations and delays can help offset some of the costs with the right travel insurance policy, provided they purchased the policy before the strike was announced.
Last week, the carrier reached a tentative agreement for a labor contract with three ground staff unions. However, two additional ground staff unions did not participate in those negotiations and decided to go ahead with the strike.
A second ground staff strike is also planned for September 17, according to Reuters, which will last four hours and take place in the morning. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” KLM said.
