Inaugural Flight and Service Details

The inaugural flight operated by the Turkish flag carrier arrived at London Stansted on Wednesday, 18 March 2026.

This marked the introduction of a twice-daily operation, providing greater flexibility and improved access to Istanbul, Turkey’s principal city. It offers access to Turkish Airlines’ extensive global network of more than 350 onward destinations spanning Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas.

The airline now offers up to 15 weekly flights on the route. Initial flight schedules start at 10–14 weekly services, increasing shortly thereafter. The route is operated by Airbus A321neo aircraft equipped with both economy and business class cabins.

These flights deliver a comfortable journey of approximately four hours, with business class passengers benefiting from generous baggage allowances, premium dining, and enhanced seating.

Airport and Airline Leadership Comments

Ciaran Brannigan, Commercial Director at London Stansted, welcomed the development as a key enhancement for the airport and its catchment area. He commented: “We are delighted to welcome Turkish Airlines to London Stansted.”

“This new route provides passengers in the region with an excellent additional option for travel to Istanbul, while Turkish Airlines’ world-class network enables seamless onward connections to over 350 global destinations.”

“The launch further strengthens our expanding route portfolio and aligns with our long-term ambition to position London Stansted as a leading international gateway for the East of England.”

Fuat Fırat, Vice President of Sales for Middle and Northern Europe at Turkish Airlines, underscored the strategic significance of the United Kingdom as a core market for the carrier. He stated: “The United Kingdom remains one of Turkish Airlines’ most important strategic markets.”

“By extending our services to London Stansted, we now serve three London airports—alongside Heathrow and Gatwick—thereby increasing choice and accessibility for our passengers. This route addresses substantial regional demand and is anticipated to support both commercial and tourism growth across the East of England.”

Launch Ceremonies and Passenger Response

The launch was commemorated with appropriate ceremonies, including a ribbon-cutting and cake-cutting event at check-in and the boarding gate.

The arriving aircraft received a traditional water cannon salute from the airport’s fire service, a customary gesture for new route inaugurations. Both initial flights operated at full capacity, underscoring strong immediate interest from leisure and business travellers alike.

Benefits for Passengers and the Region

This service facilitates direct access to Istanbul’s rich cultural heritage, historic landmarks, and unique position straddling Europe and Asia. It also positions London Stansted passengers to benefit from efficient one-stop connections to numerous international locations.

Istanbul Airport, Turkish Airlines’ primary hub, is widely regarded for its advanced facilities and effectiveness in managing transfer traffic.

For residents and businesses in London, Essex, Hertfordshire, and the wider East of England, the addition of this route means reduced travel times to the airport. It offers increased scheduling options, and superior global reach without necessarily relying on central London hubs.

Looking Ahead

London Stansted continues to broaden its international offerings in 2026. The introduction of Turkish Airlines reinforces the airport’s evolving status as a vital contributor to the UK’s aviation landscape.

The route delivers greater convenience and opportunity for passengers seeking connections to Turkey and destinations worldwide.
