Air Canada has unveiled its inaugural route utilizing the Airbus A321XLR, connecting Montréal–Trudeau International Airport (YUL) with Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI) in Spain.
Scheduled to commence in June 2026, this service marks a significant milestone in the airline’s international expansion strategy, leveraging the advanced capabilities of the A321XLR.
Palma de Mallorca Inaugural Route
Reservations for the route are now available through the airline’s website and authorized travel agencies.
The Airbus A321XLR, a narrow-body aircraft with extended-range performance, enables Air Canada to access new long-haul markets efficiently.

Airbus A321XLR Configuration
The A321XLR introduces a premium configuration to Air Canada’s narrow body operations. It features 182 seats, including 14 lie-flat Signature Class seats and 168 Economy Class seats.
This aircraft sets a new standard for the airline’s cabin interiors. The aircraft will deliver a wide body experience on select long haul routes.
Enhanced onboard amenities and a refined design standard will elevate passenger comfort and satisfaction.
Deployment on Further Routes
In addition to the Palma de Mallorca service, Air Canada will deploy the A321XLR on existing routes. This will boost operational efficiency and passenger experience.
Year-round flights between Montréal and Toulouse–Blagnac Airport (TLS) will transition to the A321XLR, strengthening connectivity between these francophone hubs.
Seasonal service from Montréal to Edinburgh Airport (EDI) will also resume in 2026, featuring the enhanced A321XLR product.
As the airline takes delivery of additional units, a further network expansion will take place. New routes from Toronto, Ottawa, and Halifax are planned.
30 Aircraft Acquisition
Air Canada’s A321XLR acquisition includes 30 aircraft, with initial deliveries commencing in the first quarter of 2026. The aircraft will be sourced via a leasing agreement with Air Lease Corporation.
Up to 10 additional units are slated for delivery throughout 2026, supporting the carrier’s long-term fleet modernization and market growth objectives.
