Landings and takeoffs at Edinburgh Airport were delayed this morning after a drone was discovered flying near the airport.

One inbound flight, easyJet EZY3242 from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, diverted to Glasgow Airport.

Operating a drone or unmanned aircraft within the airport’s flight restriction zone is a criminal offence and can lead to convictions of up to five years in prison and an unlimited fine.

Police have been informed.

An Edinburgh Airport spokesperson told The Herald: “Flights were held due to the presence of a drone within the exclusion zone, which police investigated.

“It is imperative that drone operators are aware of their responsibilities and are aware of the flight restriction zones and potential penalties.

“The safety of passengers and staff is always paramount.”

The Herald has contacted Police Scotland for comment.
