Amsterdam Schiphol Airport today reported that it welcomed 13.2 million travelers during the peak summer months of July and August, an upturn of 3.6% compared to the corresponding period a year ago.
It notes that most passengers flew between Amsterdam and destinations across Spain, the United Kingdom, Greece, Italy and the United States.
The airport accommodated 86,936 aircraft movements during the summer months – 1.6% more than in July and August 2024.
“Half of the departing travelers lives in the Netherlands. That underlines our role as a national airport, which we fulfill thanks to the efforts of thousands of colleagues at Schiphol,” noted chief operating officer, Patricia Vitalis.
“Because of them the summer went smoothly, and we received more than 200,000 travelers each day, totaling around 13.2 million. That’s an achievement we can be proud of as the Netherlands.”
Of the 13.2 million travelers in the summer, almost 8.6 million flew directly to or from Schiphol (4.2 million in July, 4.3 million in August). For these people, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol was the airport of arrival or departure. 95% of departing travelers went through the security check within 10 minutes.
Baggage handling also went smoothly; 4.5 million items belonging to departing travelers were processed during the summer holidays. That is an increase of 7% compared to the 4.2 million items in the summer of 2024.
