American Airlines said it will begin flights between its hub in Miami and Bimini, Bahamas, on Feb. 14.

The service will fly once in each direction on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays on an Embraer E175 jet operated by one of American’s regional affiliates.

“American knows that travelers are looking for unique and varied experiences, and that’s why we’ve added destinations like Bimini to our network,” American’s Senior Vice President of Network Planning Brian Znotins said in a news release. “We recently announced new routes for travelers to explore unique architecture in Prague or Budapest or ski down exciting slopes in Sun Valley, and now we’re offering a new island option in the Bahamas.”

Although the American flights are more expensive for travelers departing from Miami than other options like ferries and sea planes – fares appear to start at around $430 round-trip in basic economy, compared to fares in the $200 range with other companies – the ability to connect to Bimini without leaving the Miami airport could be a convenient draw for American Airlines customers from other origin points.
