This week brings exciting new route expansions as Finnair, WestJet, Aerolíneas Argentinas, United Airlines, SunExpress, and Akasa Air unveil fresh links to key leisure and regional markets.

Finnair Opens Summer 2026 Routes

Starting late March through October 2026, Finnair will introduce weekend services to Florence, Valencia, Kos, and Catania—bringing two flights per week to each of the first three, and three weekly flights to Catania, tapping into strong demand from Finnish and Northern European customers. Operations remain challenged by ground staff strikes, which continue to force cancellations.

Argentina to Brazil—Direct Beach Access

Aerolíneas Argentinas will begin operating twice-weekly nonstops from Tucumán and Salta to Florianópolis, Brazil. This seasonal addition, running through Easter, bypasses arrivals via Buenos Aires and enhances access for domestic travelers.

WestJet Adds Mexican Getaway from Calgary

Launching December 12, WestJet will fly weekly nonstop between Calgary and Puerto Escondido, marking its first service to the Oaxacan beach destination. This route complements its growing footprint in Mexico by adding to 15 nonstop links, increasing sun-seeking capacity by 8% this winter.

United Brings U.S.–Greenland Link Back

In summer 2026, United will resume Newark–Nuuk flights with twice-weekly Boeing 737-8s, restoring the first U.S.–Greenland connection in over 15 years.

SunExpress Expands Turkish Riviera Connections

The Lufthansa–Turkish Airlines joint venture, SunExpress, is boosting October seat capacity by 5% year-on-year. Routes to Izmir, Antalya, Bodrum, and Dalaman will offer enhanced frequencies—some shifting from weekly to daily service—to meet leisure demand across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

Nigeria–Brazil Bilateral Agreement Signed

Nigeria and Brazil signed a new air services agreement to expand tourism and trade. Air Peace gained approval for direct flights, while LATAM Cargo eyes entry.

Akasa Air Adds Kerala Connection

From October 1, Akasa Air will begin daily Mumbai–Kozhikode flights, its 30th destination, strengthening Kerala’s tourism and commerce links.

With new routes that connect continents and cultures, airlines are aligning growth with passenger needs.
