A Japan Airlines flight hit turbulence near Tokyo.

Four cabin crew have been injured after turbulence hit a Japan Airlines flight from Melbourne to Tokyo.

The Boeing 787-8 was traveling to Tokyo Narita with 146 passengers and 11 crew on board.

As it descended towards Tokyo, severe turbulence hit flight JL-774 and injured four flight attendants, reported the Aviation Herald.

Japan’s Ministry of Transport reported one flight attendant received a fracture to the lower right tibia while three other crew members suffered sprains.

The Japan Transport Safety Board (JTSB) will investigate the cause of the accident.

Two days later, another Japan Airlines flight also hit trouble when lightning struck flight JL-694 as it was climbing Miyazaki to Tokyo Haneda.

The Japan News reported the flight was climbing when it was hit by two lightning strikes, and a burning odor was later noticed on board, forcing the crew to divert the flight to Osaka’s Kansai Airport. Fortunately there was no damage recorded.

In January this year, a Japan Airlines A350 collided with a Japanese coast guard aircraft on the runway at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, bursting into flames. Five people on the smaller plane were killed, but all 379 people on the JAL flight were able to escape.

The collision occurred when the JAL plane landed on one of Haneda’s four runways where the coast guard aircraft was preparing to take off.

The airline was later praised by Japan’s head of the Transport Ministry Civil Aviation Bureau for “taking appropriate procedures” to safely evacuate all passengers and crew members.

The airline’s safety video was also lauded for being simple and straight to the point, meaning passengers knew how to respond to an emergency.
