Rolls‑Royce has secured a new order from LATAM Airlines to power three Boeing 787 Dreamliners with its Trent 1000 XE engines, providing a positive signal for UK aerospace manufacturing.

Supporting UK Manufacturing

The Trent 1000 XE engines are primarily assembled in Derby, meaning the order will support high‑value manufacturing activity and skilled jobs at one of the UK’s key aerospace hubs.

The latest variant of the Trent 1000 includes upgrades developed through Rolls‑Royce’s two‑phase durability enhancement programme. These enhancements feature a redesigned high‑pressure turbine blade that increases cooling airflow by 40%, delivering more than double the time‑on‑wing compared with earlier versions.

Rolls‑Royce said the improvements, combined with expanded maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) capacity, are contributing to industry‑leading operational performance, with some customer fleets now operating without aircraft‑on‑ground disruptions.

“This order demonstrates growing market confidence in the Trent 1000 XE and reflects the benefits that our ongoing transformation is delivering. Our significant investments to improve Time on Wing and expand our MRO network mean we are giving customers like LATAM Airlines a truly competitive engine choice that can help them achieve their growth ambitions,” said Tufan Erginbilgic, Chief Executive Officer of Rolls‑Royce.

Strengthening Market Position

The agreement reinforces Rolls‑Royce’s position in the widebody engine market and highlights the continued importance of UK‑based manufacturing in meeting global aerospace demand.
