Atlanta, June 2, 2025 – This month, British Airways proudly celebrates 45 years of flights between Atlanta and London. The airline has connected Georgia to the UK and beyond since June 1, 1980.

British Airways’ Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, Neil Chernoff, said: “We’re incredibly proud to be celebrating 45 years of flying between London and Atlanta – a city that’s not only home to the world’s busiest airport, but also to a rich cultural heartbeat of the American South. Over the past four and a half decades, we’ve had the privilege of connecting many thousands of travelers to and from London – from business leaders and vacationers to sports fans or music lovers. This anniversary is a testament to the enduring bond between our two cities, and we look forward to building on that legacy in the years to come.”

On June 1, 1980, British Airways (initially operated by British Caledonian Airways) first began serving Atlanta with direct flights to London Gatwick. In March 2009, the service moved to London Heathrow. This summer, the airline will fly daily between Atlanta – London Heathrow Terminal 3 operated by its Boeing 777 aircraft.

To commemorate the anniversary, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport treated customers to celebratory cupcakes and held a ribbon cutting before the BA226 departure on June 1.

Customers flying from Atlanta can enjoy the airline’s premium cabin options, curated dining experiences, and uniquely British service. Flights are available to book at ba.com.
