American Airlines is celebrating a major achievement in its centennial year. The airline will soon serve 100 destinations across Mexico, the Caribbean, and Latin America (MCLA).
This expansion highlights American’s strong position as the leading U.S. carrier in the region, centered around its busy Miami hub.
Two exciting new routes from Miami (MIA) will push American to this impressive milestone. Starting July 14, 2026, the airline will launch daily flights to Maracaibo, Venezuela (MAR).
Then, on November 1, 2026, service begins to Cap-Haitien, Haiti (CAP). These additions make American the first U.S. airline to resume flights to Haiti in recent years and the only carrier offering nonstop service from the U.S. to Maracaibo.
Why Miami Matters for Latin American Travel
American’s Miami hub stands as the largest U.S. gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean. With more than 410 peak daily departures, it connects travelers efficiently to destinations throughout the region. This milestone network is nearly 50% larger than American’s nearest U.S. competitor during the winter season.
Travelers benefit from unique nonstop options unavailable on other U.S. airlines. These include routes to Anguilla, Bimini in the Bahamas, Ocho Rios in Jamaica, South Caicos, Montevideo in Uruguay, and many more. Such connectivity supports business travel, family visits, leisure trips, and cultural exchanges.
Chief Commercial Officer Nat Pieper emphasized the airline’s commitment. “American connects the U.S. with Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America better than any other airline. We are committed to serving the needs of travelers by offering the most flights to the most destinations in the region of any U.S. carrier.”
Strengthening Ties with Venezuela
American is expanding its Venezuela service significantly. The new Maracaibo route builds on recently resumed flights to Caracas, where American now operates twice-daily service. This makes American the U.S. carrier with the most service to Venezuela.
Flights to Maracaibo will use Embraer 175 aircraft equipped with premium cabin seating and free high-speed Wi-Fi, sponsored by AT&T. The route aims to boost business connections and reunite families and friends.
Reconnecting with Haiti
The Cap-Haitien launch marks an important step for Haitian communities. Haiti represents the largest Caribbean country by demand without current U.S. carrier service.
South Florida hosts the largest Haitian-American population in the United States, while travelers from New York City and Orlando will enjoy convenient one-stop connections.
Daily flights will operate with Boeing 737 aircraft, also featuring premium cabins and complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi. This service helps rebuild vital links for family, business, and humanitarian travel.
Enhanced Winter Schedule and Miami Investments
American is boosting service on several popular routes this winter:
- Two daily flights to Rio de Janeiro (GIG) for the full season
- Up to eight daily flights to San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU)
- Up to four daily to St. Thomas (STT)
- New or increased frequencies to Antigua, Tortola, Exuma, and St. Kitts
These enhancements provide more flexibility for winter travelers seeking sun and culture.
Looking ahead, American plans major investments at Miami International Airport. These include a new Flagship Lounge and a re-imagined Concourse D, promising an even better experience for premium travelers.
A Century of Leadership
As American celebrates 100 years in 2026, this MCLA milestone reflects its long-standing innovation and customer focus. The airline operates more than 6,000 daily flights to over 350 destinations worldwide and serves more than 200 million customers annually.
With roots dating back to 1926, American continues its “Forever Forward” spirit. As a founding member of the oneworld alliance, it offers seamless connections across the globe.
This expansion to 100 destinations strengthens American’s role as the top choice for travel between the United States and Latin America.
Whether for business, family, or vacation, passengers gain more options, better connections, and reliable service from a carrier deeply committed to the region.
