On 13 January 2026, Delta Air Lines announced it has selected the Boeing B787-10 as part of its widebody-fleet renewal plans. The airline has placed a firm order for 30 aircraft with options on another 30. Delivery of the first Dreamliner is planned for 2031.
Delta has said it plans to use its new aircraft specifically on transatlantic and Latin-American routes. They will feature a cabin configuration with more business and premium economy class seats than on the aircraft used today to cater for increased demand.
This is actually the second time that Delta has Dreamliners on order with Boeing. When the airline acquired Northwest Airlines in 2009, it also took-over that airline’s firm order for eighteen B787-8s with options on another 50. Northwest Airlines placed that order in 2005. It was cancelled, however, by Delta in 2016.
With this latest order, Delta now has open orders with Boeing for 100 B737-10s and 30 B787-10s. Delivery of the MAXs are set to begin once Boeing is able to achieve certification from the FAA for the type.
The airline also has open orders with Airbus for 64 A220-300s, 68 A321neos, four A350-900s, and 20 A350-1000s.
Today, the Delta Air Lines-fleet is almost 1,000 aircraft strong. It’s made-up of 45 A220-100s, 36 A220-300s, 57 A319s, 46 A320s, 127 A321s, 87 A321neos, eleven A330-200s, 31 A330-300s, 39 A330-900s, 40 A350-900s, 80 B717-200s, 77 B737-800s, 163 B737-900ERs, 75 B757-200s, sixteen B757-300s, 37 B767-300ERs, and 21 B767-400s.
